DEZEEN & LONDON POST - PROUD LITTLE PYRAMID AT COAL DROPS YARD

We Are Placemaking’s latest activation covered in local media.

A simple but highly effective piece of placemaking with Adam Nathaniel Furman, built from the recycled structure of the Christmas terrarium tree installation that previously stood in Coal Drop’s Yard, the 9.5-metre-high pyramid is covered in Furman’s signature colourful motifs.

The bright pyramid opened to the public as part of LGBT+ Pride month and, as the name Proud Little Pyramid suggests, was created as a celebration of King’s Cross’ queer history.

OPEN AIR BUSINESS - WE ARE PLACEMAKING’S LOUISA BASS EXPLAINS HOW EVENTS CELEBRATE AND STRENGTHEN COMMUNITIES.

Our Account Director Louisa Bass wrote a new feature for Open Air Business magazine’s May April Issue. Louisa discusses creative placemaking, and how events can celebrate and strengthen communities.

“‘Celebration’ is a key word in itself, evoking thoughts around the social nature of humanity and our need for collaboration and social interaction. We come together to celebrate all sorts of moments in time, be it the launch of a new development, a Christmas celebration, an arts festival or a food market. These events create ample opportunities for not only local food and beverage operators (F&B) and retailers but also for local community engagement and interaction, which then has a positive knock on effect to local economy, general wellbeing and localism”

LONDON'S 2020 CHRISTMAS TREES

The Londonist has featured both of our unconventional Christmas tree’s in the King’s Cross neighbourhood.

“Round the corner in Coal Drops Yard you’ll encounter Terrarium Tree. Sustainability is key for this design, which features 70 living terrariums by Coal Drops Yard-based business Botanical Boys, surrounded by 168 mirrored baubles. The plants will go throughout the festive season, and be rehomed in 2021.

Finally, Battle Bridge Place houses The People’s Tree, our favourite of the N1C trio. The illumination reacts to the steps and hand movements of visitors, meaning you control what you see, and no two visits are the same.”

A GIANT TERRARIUM CHRISTMAS TREE WILL LIGHT UP KINGS CROSS

This year, King’s Cross will have not one but three elaborate trees. The upmarket Coal Drops Yard shop Botanical Boys has designed The Terrarium Tree, a 28-foot structure made up of 70 little terrariums that will be lit up at night. Each glass orb will house its own micro-garden that will be reflected in the tree’s 168 mirrored baubles. The plan is that the core structure of the tree will be reusable in future and each terrarium will be re-homed in 2021.
