Waltham Forest Christmas Extravaganza

Waltham Forest Council’s Christmas Extravaganza is a community event spread across the historic Town Hall site. As well as a festive celebration, the event marked the launch of a series of events celebrating the redevelopment of the Town Hall site, and the beginning of its conversion into a public realm space.

We Are Placemaking were asked by Waltham Forest Borough Council to produce the multifaceted event across the beautiful site. It needed to be designed in a way that allowed guests to find everything that was available. The goal was to create a natural flow around the grand fountain and into the Assembly Hall.

One of the challenges, as with many of the event we produce, time was not on our side when it came to producing this event. From concept to delivery, the event was turned around in less than a month.

Furthermore, as the news of the event spread around the Council the scale and scope of the event increase considerably. The inclusion of the Worlds Aids Days lights, the celebrity performance from East 17 and the Christmas lights switch on, were all late additions to the day’s line up.
